Creation of an illustrated formal report.

Detailed Instructions
You are to complete a formal product dissection of the clothespin given to you last week, and create an illustrated report of the procedure and results. See Chapter 9 (pp.250-265) of your Engineering Design Graphics textbook for explanations of how to complete the dissection. NOTE the questions asked in each section description and the examples provided. Present as much of your information as possible in the form of charts and diagrams like in the text.
The report must NOT be more than 3 pages long.
The report must be illustrated and include the following sections:
- Introduction
- Pre-dissection analysis. (including at least 1 image)
- Dissection description. (including at least 3 images)
- Product documentation.
- Product analysis.
- Product re-assembly.
- Conclusion
- References (optional if there are none).
The introduction and conclusion MUST be in paragraph form but the other sections should use point form.
All images MUST be properly accredited (i.e. the author of the image must be named, and if the image came from a book, the net, or some other source, it must be properly referenced.
Submission
The document for this assignment MUST be created AND SUBMITTED using Google Docs. DO NOT download the document or save it to a different format. Failure to follow these instructions will be severely penalized (your mark will be REDUCED by 50%).
Submission MUST be accomplished by creating a LIVE link to your document in your Moodle submission.
Bonus
THIS ASSIGNMENT HAS ONE OPPORTUNITY FOR UP TO 2% IN BONUS MARKS
Optional for bonus: Product improvement.
Suggest up to three (minor) modifications that could be made to the design to improve its functionality and/or durability.
- The improvement MUST be illustrated and it must NOT involve a major change such as using different materials to replace the wood or metal, significant changes to its shape, or the addition of significant parts. Small additions are permissible.
- The improvement(s) must be explained and justified.
- The improvement MUST address a functional problem in the original design.
- The 'Product Improvement' should be one page or less (NO more), and should be part of your product dissection.
- There should be a page break between the dissection part of the report and the improvement part of the report.
Grading
Grading for this assignment will proceed as follows:
- ALL submissions start with a full score of 24 points.
- EACH error (as listed below) will result in one mark being taken off (one point per line item, except 1.4, which will cost you 2 points).
NOTE: FLAWS NOT COVERED BY THE LIST BELOW MAY STILL RESULT IN POINTS BEING LOST.

- Improper submission:
- failed to create live link in Moodle.

- Shared document instead of sharing link.
- Too long (> 3 pages). This can be checked in Google Docs by selecting Print Preview under the File tab. You may not force the report onto 2 pages by reducing margins or fonts. Images MUST be clear and comprehensible.
- Too short.
- Missing ANY section (TWO points taken off PER section missing)

- Unhelpful images (poorly or sloppily drawn; images that don't help).
- Inappropriately sized images.
- Improperly cropped images.
- Improperly labeled images.
- Images that aren't clear - scanned images MUST be cleaned up if they are smudgy or show marks or artifacts that aren't integral to the image.
- Too light or too dark.
- Captions: missing
- Captions: inconsistent
- Captions: improperly formed or placed
- Placement:
- sloppy placement of figures
- placement that does not complement the written parts.
- image goes over the margin of the page.

- Content (these flaws can be applied once PER SECTION):
- Confusing or misleading.
- Incomplete.
- Poorly written (i.e. does not explain what it is supposed to explain.)
- Errors range from minor to major. More than 2 minor errors constitute a major flaw. Each major flaw results in ONE point being taken off.
- Improper or inconsistent headings.
- Capitalization: All names, sentences, lists and other items must be correctly capitalized.
- Improper tone: too casual; flippant; hostile; rude; etc.
- Grammar: Errors range from minor to major. More than 2 minor errors constitute a major flaw. Each major flaw results in ONE point being taken off.
- Punctuation: Errors range from minor to major. More than 2 minor errors constitute a major flaw. Each major flaw results in ONE point being taken off.
- Font too large or small.
- Font inconsistent.
- Inappropriate font for the type of document.
- Too much or too little white space.
- Margins: too big or too small.
- Margins: inconsistent.
